German FM: Iran ‘key to stabilizing Mideast’
January 19, 2016
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Tuesday that Iran is key to stabilizing the Middle East, Reuters reported. Tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia will not disappear soon, but it is possible to help build trust between the two rivals, according to the minister. “In a first step, a lot would be achieved if both sides brought the current situation under control, talked to each other” Steinmeier said. He also stressed that Tehran has fulfilled its part of the commitments stemming from a nuclear deal with six world powers – a precondition for broadening cooperation.
