Bomb Kills Governor in Afghanistan

KABUL—A bomb planted in a mosque killed the governor of Afghanistan’s Logar province Tuesday morning, marring one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar.
A suicide bomber attacked a mosque in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday morning, killing the provincial governor as he prepared to give a speech commemorating the start of a major Muslim holiday, officials said. Early reports suggested that the attack at the Pul-e-Alam mosque in Logar had claimed the life of just the provincial governor, Arsala Jamal, a Canadian citizen who was thought of highly by the coalition leaders here. The attack injured at least 15 others, Afghan officials said, at least 8 of whom are in critical condition, and it was one of the few by insurgents that took the life of a senior official this year.
