BEIJING: China has slammed the US for ignoring repeated warnings and allowing one of its Navy destroyers to sail close to artificial islands created by Beijing in the South China Sea. It said the USS Lassen’s actions “damage peace and stability in the region”. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang reacts after US navy warship sailed past South China Sea islands on Tuesday morning. He warns that China will ‘respond to any country’s deliberate provocations’, claiming that the US has launched a direct military challenge when the USS Lassen warship came within 12 nautical miles of the disputed Spratly islands.
