Iranians believe IS was invented by America

Many ordinary Iranians believe their leader’s rhetoric that the United States invented the terrorist group Islamic State to counter Iran’s growing influence in the region.
Last week Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said he believes America created IS as a ploy to re-establish a foothold in Iraq and fight Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s ally. “We have evidence now, we know” Ayatollah Khamenei reportedly told a gathering of clerics. Read more
