August 27, 2014
An open-ended ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been holding in the Gaza Strip, with no fighting reported since they reached the agreement on Tuesday.
Israel and the Islamic militant group Hamas agreed to a plan brokered by Egypt to implement a truce without setting any time limit. Later on Tuesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared the ceasefire in the West Bank city of Ramallah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has so far made no official remarks on the ceasefire.
