Russian troops carry out drills
April 24, 2014
The Russian Defence minister Sergey Shoigu says Russian forces based on the border with Ukraine have been ordered to carry out military drills. In his statement Shoigu said the order was in response to the Ukrainian government which said it had attacked pro-Russian checkpoints in the east of the country.
Mr Shoigu was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying: “If this military machine is not stopped, it will lead to greater numbers of dead and wounded. “We are forced to react to such a development of the situation.”
