Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Also Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Dehghan, the Russian Ministry of Defense’s press service said. Dehghan visited Moscow earlier in February. The ministers discussed the agreement on military cooperation in order to lay the groundwork for a legal basis for Russian-Iranian cooperation in this sphere. Russia and Iran stepped up military cooperation last year after Tehran reached a deal with the P5+1 group of countries to scale down its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
