Tokyo demands US explanation over alleged spying on Japan govt

Tokyo is seeking an explanation from the US over the alleged spying on the Japanese government and companies. “We are strongly asking US Director of National Intelligence [James] Clapper to check the facts,” Kyodo quoted Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga as saying. The official was commenting on WikiLeaks reports showing that the US National Security Agency spied on Japanese officials and companies. If the alleged spying were true, Japan, as an ally of the US, “would find it extremely regrettable,” according to Suga.
