UN Security Council elects five new non-permanent members

On October 16, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly elected five new non-permanent members on the Security Council for two-year terms. The five new members, as non-permanent members include Angola, Malaysia,New Zealand , Spain and Venezuela .
Following the first round of voting, the General Assembly elected Angola, Malaysia, New Zealand, Venezuela and Spain who was elected with 132 votes to Turkey’s 60, after a third round of balloting, following a close fight with Turkey to fill the remaining seat on the Council, open to the Western European and other states group. The new members term will begin from January 1, 2015 and cease on December 31 , 2016.
